This is the first time Fleet Feet has offered a beginners trail running training group. This is a perfect group if you’ve been running regularly, but want to expand your horizon and include trail running in your repertoire. Many experts say that trail running is not only a good change psychologically, but also benefits you physiologically by making you a stronger runner and giving your body a break from the hard pounding of the road. The Fleet Feet Trail Running training group will start with a 3-mile trail run and work up to a 6-7 mile run in preparation for the 5.5-mile Catalina State Park Trail Race on April 12. Plan that your per-mile pace will be slower on trails to allow for the group to stay together and to manage the new terrain. Beginner Trail Running Group: Start: Sunday, March 2 Meets: Once weekly on Sundays at 7 a.m. Where: Various trails. Goal race: Saturday, April 12 Catalina State Park 5.5 mile Trail Run. Prerequisite: Running or run/walk minimum of 4 miles a few times a week and new to trail running. Cost: $60 (race entry included; *no daily training plan). |
